What to Look for When Hiring a Tutoring Agency

March 25, 2019 By Dan Eiblum

MathSmart Tutors
Hiring an in-home math tutor for your child isn’t as easy as “Googling” for a local tutor. Blindly placing your faith in a random educator could see you throwing your money down the drain. When searching for an in-home math tutor you can count on, there are three things every parent needs to look out for. Without further ado, let’s dive right in.

1. Don’t look for bargains. You always get what you pay for. By choosing an in-home math tutor that costs a little more, you’ll reap bigger rewards in the long run – namely a confident, educated child who will go onto enjoy a prosperous career!

2. Search carefully. When Googling for local tutoring services, look for tutors who do things differently. The best in-home math tutors perform rigorous vetting processes to ensure the best local tutoring services beyond classroom borders.

3. Know what you want and need. Set goals so you know what to look for in a tutoring agency. Where do your child’s strengths and weaknesses lie? This will help you ask agencies to right questions to ensure the best local tutoring services for your child.

The whole point of hiring an in-home math tutor is to help your child improve their grades by boosting their confidence and self-esteem. Without the right local tutoring services, you’re only wasting money. At MathSmart Tutoring, we put our tutors through a rigorous vetting process by acting as ‘students’ and getting THEM to tutor US. That’s how you know you can place your faith in us time after time. Contact us today to learn more about our local tutoring services!

Reasons to get a Math Tutor

March 19, 2019 By Dan Eiblum

MathSmart Tutoring
Fact: Your child cannot learn everything they need to succeed in the classroom alone. Sometimes, local tutoring services are essential for children who need to raise their grades. As parents, we all want the best for our kids. Here are our top five reasons why you should consider hiring an in-home math tutor for your child.

1. Build a solid math foundation
Math is more than just a school subject. It’s something we ALL need throughout our entire lives! An in-home math tutor can help your child build a strong mathematical foundation from early on in life, constantly building upon their knowledge so they can always stay one step ahead with local tutoring services.

2. 1-on-1 attention
It’s hard to focus when you’re surrounded by 20-30 other pupils vying for the teacher’s attention. Talk about uninspiring! An in-home math tutor can give your child the personal attention they need, identifying their strengths and weaknesses to focus on areas that need improvement.

3. Boost confidence
Most of the time, bad grades are caused by low self-esteem. Local tutoring services will help your child get a firmer grasp on the subject, so they can walk back into the classroom with more confidence, clarity, and focus.

4. Easier homework
Many children struggle with their math homework, and parents rarely know how to help. With local tutoring services, you can eliminate homework troubles by strengthening their knowledge on a deeper level.

5. Test success
Everything is connected. 1-on-1 attention means better knowledge-retention, meaning better math skills, which translates into more confident test-writing and better results. Both you and your child will be amazed at the results you’ll get from leading local tutoring services.

The Bottom Line
If you’re searching for an in-home math tutor in Maryland you can trust, look no further than MathSmart Tutoring. We’ll gladly help your child sharpen their math skills, while giving them the confidence they need to grow into happy, well-balanced, smart adults.

To calculate or not to calculate?

January 10, 2019 By Dan Eiblum

MathSmart TutoringClassrooms are a far reach from what they used to be. Gone are the days of doing sums in one’s head and naturally strengthening one’s mathematical ability. Today, graphing calculators cater to laziness, giving students a simple way to perform instant calculations. This damages children’s arithmetic abilities, giving their brains no reason to work harder. This lack of mental “exercise” can prove detrimental in the long run. What if a child was one day placed into a situation where they needed to perform a calculation without a calculator? Would they be able to do it?

It’s an ongoing debate, with several pros and cons surrounding the topic. While graphing calculators foster greater technical knowledge, are enjoyable to use, and ensure airtight accuracy, these mathematical tools are also responsible for widespread complacency. By using a calculator to complete all of their work, students will never be able to develop their math skills to the level they are completely capable of achieving.

That’s what sets public and private schools apart. While public schools let children use graphing calculators to their heart’s content, their private counterparts ban the use of these calculators. For this reason, private school students are much better at (and more confident in) arithmetic. We’re here to prove that you don’t need to fork out on private school tuition to enjoy the same results.

Reliance on a graphing calculator could be a root cause of low self-esteem and confidence issues. At MathSmart Tutoring, we show children simple yet powerful techniques to perform calculations using nothing else but their own brain – strengthening their faith in their own arithmetic abilities. We hire only the best and brightest tutors for your child’s benefit, all of whom are put to the test by the company’s own founder and president.
